Day 54

I know I've been slacking on updating this... Today is day 54. Although I haven't kept up with my swimming and running like I have been, I've been going to the gym at least 5 days a week. I get up every morning at 5am and head to the gym. There was a week that I missed like 3 days, but other than that I've been pretty consistent. Now all I need to do is be better about doing my cardio.

I have been biking once, I went last weekend. I want to start training for an off-road duathlon in October, so the plan is to start running and biking the trail where the race will be so I can get ready for it.

Day 12

I worked out my arms again this morning:

Standing dumbell curls
Seated dumbell curls
EZ bar curls
Standing hammer curls
Overhead dumbell extension
V-bar pushdowns

I feel pretty good, and I'm glad I can get back to the pool today during lunch. I've missed my lunchtime swim the past two days.

I've been pretty bummed I haven't been able to do my night time workout lately, and tonight I still won't be able to. We've got tickets to go so the American Idol performance. But, there's always this weekend to play catch-up. Maybe I'll go for a bike ride this weekend. Hopefully next week I'll be able to finally kick it into high gear and start working out three times a day.

Day 11

5:00am again! It doesn't seem so hard to get up that early now. The only problem is that Dexter sometimes thinks it's time to get up, too.. like this morning. He wouldn't go back to bed and so Becky couldn't sleep until her normal time..

Worked out shoulders & back today:

Seated military dumbell press
Front dumbell raise
Lat pulldown
One arm dumbell row
Seated cable row
Upright row/Shrugs superset

I feel really good today. Lots of energy, and my legs are nearly as sore as they were yesterday. I did abs a little last night before I went to bed. I was running a little late because of Dexter, so I couldn't spend any time on my abs or in the sauna this morning. Oh well.

I won't be able to workout at lunch today, because I'm working through lunch to get off of work early. Going to the Dr. to find out what our baby is going to be!! I might be able to work out tonight though.

Day 10 - Chest

Got up at 5:00am, as usual. Worked out my chest today:

Flat bench
Incline bench
Decline bench
Overhead dumbell pulls
Dumbell flys
Cable crossovers
Pec Deck

I sat in the sauna for about 10 minutes afterward, too.

I didn't get to swim today.. :-( I was out of the area and couldn't work out. I didn't work out tonight, either. That's probably a good thing though, I was tired today and my legs were killing me. All I did was walk around and get up and down off the floor and go up and down a ladder.. it wasn't pleasant.

Tomorrow is shoulders and back day!!

Day 9 - Part Deux

Went and swam, did 10 laps down and back (not consecutive. Now I wonder if I really did so many yesterday... because 10 laps kicked my butt! On one of my better laps (just one length of the pool), I did it in 23 seconds. Not sure how fast that is, probably isn't!

My legs started to cramp up about lap 7 because I worked out my legs this morning, but I just sucked it up and kept going. I won't be able to work out tonight, which is probably for the best because I probably can't take much more today.

Day 9

Got up at 5:00 and went to the gym, worked out my legs. Sat in the sauna for about 5 minutes, it was hot and I was tired. I didn't sleep well for a number of reasons, so I watched the clock from about 3:30 until 5:00 when my alarm went off.

Day 8

I was too tired to get up, so I didn't go to the gym. Plus my buddy Todd and I have been trying to go work out together so he can show me some pointers.

I went to the Claremore rec center today during lunch and swam laps for about 20 minutes, I think I did like 12 or 13 laps (down and back). That was about all I could handle for my first time swimming laps, I hadn't swam laps in forever. I thought I did pretty good.

I met up with Todd at 7:00, we worked out our arms until about 8:45 and then spent 15 minutes or so in the sauna.

Day 6 & 7

Yeah.. it's the weekend. No working out for me! Rest days!

Day 5

It's Friday!!!

I didn't get up this morning to work out, however I have every intention of going tonight. I missed yesterday, but that's okay because it was supposed to be leg day and who needs to work their legs out anyway, right??

Tonight I'll be working out my shoulders and back. I feel bad for Dexter, he's got to go back into his crate so I can go to the gym.

Day 4

Day 4... I wasn't so good today. I didn't get up and go to the gym, because I was going to work out that night with a friend. Didn't end up working out that night, either.

So, chalk Day 4 up as a loss. But, that's okay.. I'm allowed a rest day.. *wink wink*

Day 3 - Yay!

Today was day 3. Things are going good. I worked out my triceps today... 3 sets of 8:

Straight bar pulldowns
Overhead arm extensions
Skullcrashers
Rope pulldowns
Reverse pulldowns
Dips - lol, these are the worst to do last!

I also had my bodyfat measured this morning. It's a weird little device you just hold out in front of you.. somehow it calculates body fat percentage and body mass index. My current body fat percentage is 14.7%, and I weigh 215.5 lbs right now, so that means I have 31.67 pounds of body fat. Let's see if I can get down closer to 6%, anything less than that is really unhealthy.

So, as of 7/15/09, I'm 6'4", 215.5 lbs, 14.7% body fat. Not too bad already!

Day 2 - "Curl Day"

Today was Day 2. I got up bright and early and got to the gym for the second day in a row. I call it "Curl Day" because that's all it was... curls. 4 sets of 8 reps:

standing barbell curls
hammer curls
alternating seated dumbell curls
standing EZ-bar curls
preacher curls
concentration curls

Tomorrow will be a good day, too. Nothing but triceps!

I didn't make it to the pool today for two reasons. #1) I was out of town for work, and #2) I don't have a lock to put on a locker and there's no way I'm just leaving my stuff without a lock on it.

I can't do cardio tonight either because of Life Group. There's always tomorrow!

I made cookies last night.. chocolate chip cookies from scratch. I'm not going to lie, I tested them.. :-) I said I was going to eat better, not give up everything for good! :-)

Day 1 - Part 2

I jumped rope outside for about 25 minutes. Yeah, it was hot... 100 degrees. Then I did about 75 roman crunches in the garage. Now on to cutting the lawn!

100 Day Fitness Challenge - Day 1

I decided this morning on the way to work that I need to do something about my workout routine. I already work out, but it's sporadic. So, I've decided to go all out! Give myself a goal.. a 100 day challenge. That means working out every day (at least once), eating better, and drinking plenty of water.

So day 1 started off right, getting up at 5:00 am to get to the gym. This morning I worked out my chest:

Flat bench
Incline bench
Decline bench
Overhead dumbell pulls
Dumbell Flys
Cable crossovers (high and low)

I did 4 sets of 8 - 10 reps. Don't laugh, but I don't have much strength in my chest. I was only doing like 115 lbs for my bench presses. Overhead pulls I was doing a 45lb weight, dumbell flys I was doing 25lb dumbells and cable crossovers I was doing 40lbs per arm.

I went and signed up at my local gym (local to work) so I could work out at my lunch hour as well. My plan is to lift in the mornings, swim during lunch, and some other cardio at night whether it be jump rope, run, hit the heavy bag, or ride my bike.

We'll see how it goes!
